A world map of notable architecture — by style, era, and architect.
The atlas does. Every building, architect, style, and description is stored inside the app, so search, filters, saved lists, and detail pages all work with no signal. Two things do need a connection: the base map, which is Apple Maps and streams its tiles, and the photographs, which are downloaded from Wikimedia Commons and then cached.
Roughly one building in twenty has no photograph on Wikimedia Commons yet. Where an architect or style has no portrait of its own, the app shows one of their buildings instead and captions it as such.
Buildings, architects, and styles come from Wikidata (public domain). Descriptions are written from Wikipedia article text (CC BY-SA 4.0). Photographs come from Wikimedia Commons under their individual licences, each credited to its photographer in the app.
Because the data comes from Wikidata and Wikipedia, corrections made there flow into the next update of the app — and they help everyone, not just this app. You can also email me and I will look into it.
Open the list and tap the share button, or press and hold it in the Saved tab. The link contains only the list's name and the buildings in it. If tapping the link does not open the app, copy the whole message and use Paste a shared list in the Saved tab.
Photographs you have viewed are cached so they load instantly next time. Go to About → Storage to see how much space that cache is using and clear it. The map data itself is a fixed size and does not grow.
The app only ever asks for your location when you tap the locate button, and it never leaves your device. Turn it off in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Gable.
